From Friday 25 to Sunday 27 June at 9:30pm (19h30 le dimanche) - square Gambetta
Le Chant du Dindon (The Song of the Fool)
Rasposo Company in fellowship with La Verrerie d’Alès en Cévennes/Pôle National des Arts du Cirque Languedoc-Roussillon
Authors: Mary and Fanny Molliens
Director: Fanny Molliens
Stage design: Vincent Molliens
Creation, adaptation and musical improvisation: Benoit Keller, Jacky Lignon, Christian Millanvois and Alain Poisot
This fantastic show brings together circus performers (acrobatics, Chinese pole, balancing, juggling and magic), actors, musicians (violin, bass, drums and percussion, accordion) and a singer.
In the ring, the lead performer acts out a farce; but he is the “fool” in the farce, because the actual farce represents his life, and he is in fact acting out his life. In this "daydream" that is attributed to the artist, we imagine him as brilliant, adulated, loved and surrounded by friends. But the reality is very different: the Artist is alone.
An acrobatic trip to the heart of our emotions, where the Slavic music, in its colourful diversity, always tells something – the suffering or joy – of life.
Tariff : 16 € (No numbered seats) - Youth rate : 12 € + Booking fee : 3,80 €

A living legend for the opening of the Festival
Bob Dylan is one of the greatest lyricists and composers in the folk-rock history. He is particularly well-known for some musical gems, such as Like A Rolling Stone, Knockin’ On Heaven's Door, Blowin’ in the Wind, Mr. Tambourine Man and All Along The Watchtower.
His musical style has evolved over the years; rock, folk, country and blues music are all examples of the diversity of his work.
Dylan fascinates and inspires us. Many artists identify with him, from Lou Reed, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith to the White Stripes. Martin Scorsese devoted a film to Bob Dylan -- No Direction Home (2005).
Since 1988, Dylan has continued his Never Ending Tour around the world, promoting his latest albums, "Love & Theft" or "Modern Times" (2006), in unique shows.
An event that will leave an indelible mark in the history of the Théâtre de la Cité!

Juillet 2010

Saturday 3 July at 9:30pm - théâtre Jean Deschamps, Cité Médiévale
Opera in four acts, created on March 3, 1875, at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, on a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy after the short-story by Prosper Mérimée.
In a departure from beaten paths, Opéra en Plain Air has conferred the artistic direction on two unusual personalities: Patrick Poivre d’Arvor and Manon Savary.
Music Director: Paul Emmanuel-Thomas
Scenery: Jean-Michel Adam
Lighting: Philippe Lacombe
Bizet owes his extraordinary fame as an opera composer to Carmen. None of his other works has had the same global success. The libretto by Meilhac and Halévy, based on the work of Prosper Mérimée, is exceptional. It is faithful to the two core principles of the opera; the ideas are simple and straightforward, and the motivations are clear, which does not exclude subtlety. Each act is subject to a single dramatic principle:
Act I, Carmen seduces Don José
Act II, Carmen destroys José
Act III, Carmen abandons José and Act IV, José kills Carmen.
Volumes have been written on the perfection of Carmen, which was admired by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Wagner and Richard Strauss.
A great moment of opera!

It is now clear that Mika is not like other artists: “Special" could be his nickname. Wrapped in the imaginary world of music he himself has created, he is one of the few pop-stars of his age who does things differently.
The atypical singer and showman tumbled into the global musical scene with his first album, Life In Cartoon Motion, which had created a buzz and a slew of major hits, such as Take me Easy, Big Girl, etc. In 2010, Mika is back on stage with an equally powerful and energetic second album. International music
A mythical New Wave and Rock group founded in 1975. Simple Minds owe their international popularity to tracks like Don't You (Forget About Me), Mandela Day or Belfast Child, which also bear witness to their humanitarian commitment.
Leading the group are inseparable founder members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill. The group made its way back to the limelight in September 2005 with an album called Black & White 050505 which seeks to offer a way back to the glory days of the group's sound while bringing in new notes. Their latest album, Graffiti Soul, was released in May 2009. This is a resolutely more rock and more powerful album, for a return to success with both fans and critics. On release, it went straight to number ten in the UK charts.

Motörhead is the epitome of what Rock 'N' Roll should have continued to be from the beginning. The legendary trio will give their maximum on stage. Paulo Conte, the great man of Italian songs, pursues a remarkable career as jazzy crooner and inspired composer, outside of fashions and time. His songs, whether comic or nostalgic, often combine the exuberance and musicality of the Italian language with the staccato swing of a piano very much influenced by Art Tatum (famous jazz pianist of the 30s). Stanislas (French variety)
It is not easy to summarize the complex personality of Stanislas – a singer, conductor, teacher, composer, sometimes author, musician and arranger – someone who can lead an orchestra of 300 musicians and write string arrangements for Calogero, Céline Dion, Kool Shen and Charles Aznavour.
He is an atypical artist with a voice high-pitched with emotion, an angelic purity and bittersweet inflections. Stanislas gives us a rendezvous in his kaleidoscope.
Calogero (French pop music)
After a 30-date tour throughout France, Calogero continues his 2010 tour in a new packaging. For the first time in his career, Calogero will perform unplugged at the Théâtre Jean Deschamps, for an intimate but no less energetic concert. 2010 marks the reunion of the famous rock band, which, with four albums to its credit and a slew of hits such as Linger, Zombie, Ode to my family and Salvation, has sold 40 million records worldwide.
The charismatic Dolores O'Riordan sings with her unique and unforgettable voice -- a voice at its best, incredibly hot, as evidenced by her solo album "No Baggage", released in 2009.
With their respective solo experiences and guided by the same desire to play together again, the band returns stronger and more rock-and-roll than ever. Onstage, the band will perform pieces from the two solo albums of Dolores O’Riordan as well as their greatest hits.

Izïa (Rock / Soul / Punk)
Izïa was rewarded with two Victoires de la Musique 2010, "Revelation Scene of the Year" and "Rock Album of the Year”.
This young author, composer and performer, just 18 years old, has just signed her first record at AZ. Izïa was almost born on the stage: at 16, without a label, she was already the support act for Iggy Pop! As a child, she was surrounded by artists and her life started to revolve early on around music. Her influences are many: that of her father, Jacques Higelin, is present in her daily life; he transmitted his eclectic musical tastes to her without limit, and opened the doors for her to jazz and English pop music.
Onstage, Izïa conveys a crazy and passionate energy, and offers a hard, forceful, moving and uncompromising sound. She sings in English because the tone of her voice carries better with the sonority of the words.
An explosive rock concert and a raw talent to discover absolutely.
Caravan Palace (Electro / Jazz / Swing)
Caravan Palace is the UFO band of the moment, and should not be missed. It started with a bassist, a guitarist and a violinist -- electro do-it-yourselves but also very good musicians and swing jazz enthusiasts -- Django addicts of sorts. Together, they created a project that attracted a singer, a clarinettist, and a DJ scratcher. Caravan Palace sets the tone with its jubilant and frenetic music – an unlikely futuristic Charleston, very much “dance-floor” and always melodic.
Tango had its Gotan Project; now swing jazz has its Caravan Palace. Swing is back from the future and it's a huge success!
A concert not to be missed, performed by one of the "revelation" bands of these last two years!

Charlie Winston arrived like a bomb in the musical landscape with his first album and his single, "like a hobo". The author-composer-singer plays the piano, the guitar, the bass, the percussions but can also be a producer and an arranger. His meeting with Peter Gabriel was decisive and allowed him to release his first album and experience a stunning and deserved success.
A traveller and a charmer, romantic, but also malicious and ironical, Charlie Winston’s album is at the image of Charlie himself. His way of understanding the world can already be found in the title of his first album, "Hobo", a tribute to the life philosophy of the Hobos –those men and women, itinerant workers who seek odd jobs or a free ride, choose to move away from all material restraints to only follow their inner truth and firmly take control of their lives.
There was a time, not so long ago, when the songs that had a soul enjoyed the widest echoes. Charlie Winston revives the tradition of the soul men, following the example of his masters: Ray Charles, Randy Newman and Tom Waits.
Onstage, Charlie’s pleasure is great and communicative – a high-quality show worth every minute!

By William Shakespeare

The plot takes place in Illyria, which is ruled by the Duke Orsino. A storm causes the sinking of a ship from Messina carrying Viola and her twin, Sebastian. The two young people survive the sinking but are washed up in two different places on the coast, each believing they have lost their twin. They will however end up at the court of Duke Orsino, where a series of misunderstandings and complications ensue. Based on Marcel Aymé’s short story
Adapted, directed and performed by Francis Huster
In this performance, Francis Huster, who is alone on stage, seeks to do justice to the courage, magnanimity and writing genius of Marcel Aymé.
”Traversée de Paris” is more than the title of a short story, it is a veritable historical painting. Marcel Aymé gives the colours of life to his characters; the painting of his characters is vivid with social realism. As a relentless and ferocious surgeon of the soul, he brushes an extraordinary lucid portrait of Paris under the occupation, a portrait cruel and comical at the same time.
