The Théâtre Jean Deschamps situated in the Medieval Cité is a unique location. The Cultural enterprise begun in 1908 gave birth in 1957 to the Cité Festival, which has today gained national and international renown.
The Grand Théâtre Antique, the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, the Castle Courtyard...., all these scenic venues are steeped in history, giving the shows staged in them a unique edge.
Carcassonne is brought to life throughout July by the Festival’s frantic rhythm of theatre, dance, opera and concerts, offering 18 to 25 shows in all.
Only artists of national and international renown are invited to perform at the festival.
It’s often the only opportunity to see these international stars performing in France.
